Using Universal Design

Animal Nation, Grade 1
Animal Nation is a science unit that allows students to explore animals and their needs for survival. Though a science unit, Animal Nation also leads students to practice skills in the other subject areas of English language arts, mathematics, and social studies.

Utopian Destination, Grade 3
Utopian Destination is a social studies unit that allows students to study the formation and history of cities and act as urban planners for a city of their imaginations. Utopian Destination also has interdisciplinary connections to English language arts and Reading and fine arts.

Time Travel, Grade 8
Time Travel is a social studies/English language arts unit that allows students to explore an historical event through a piece of literature. Time Travel also teaches students skills in the other subject areas of mathematics and science.

In the Community: A Study of Culture
In the Community is an English language arts unit that allows students to study important figures and events in their local community through literature, the arts, culture, and other perspectives. In the Community also has interdisciplinary connections to social studies and the fine arts.
